9 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari 

The 9 days Rwanda gorilla safari exposes you to the inner beauty of Rwanda that mostly attracts tourists. On your arrival, have a city tour in Kigali to several places such as Kigali genocide memorial, museum among others. Proceed for primate tracking and birding in Nyungwe National park (tropical rain forest)in Rusizi, connect to Parc National des Virunga for Mountain Gorilla tracking and end with a big game driving in the savannah park, Akagera National Park. The 9 days Rwanda gorilla safari starts and ends in Kigali City.

Day 1 of 9: Arrival in Kigali City for a Tour
One of our staff members welcomes you at the airport, meet and greet before you head to your hotel or lodge. Later, proceed to your chosen hotel. Pick a few items to pack in your portable back and proceed for Kigali city tour, where you will visit the Kigali Memorial site, curio markets and the Kimironko fruits markets. Have a taste of the fresh fruits of your choice and an opporntunity to associate with these market vendors. Kigali city tour will also comprise of the old town of Nyamirambo and the new handicraft village and other shops. The craft shops consists of the Batwa pottery. This tour takes few hours and extremely interesting. Have lunch and proceed to other places. Lunch encountered enroute.The professional African Saari Journeys driver proceed to Nyungwe National park.

Day 2 of 9: Hiking and trekking Colobus trails
After breakfast, set off for colobus monkey trekking in Nyungwe forest.  A walk in the forest exposes to the large groupings of colobus monkeys. The tour is accompanied by an experienced park ranger who is well versed  with the montane forest with it’s animal species. With the help of the park ranger, you will identify them with the white and black patches which makes them unique. This tour is more of trekking for colobus monkeys because of the many animal species and bird watching. The tour doesnt take so long therefore get back to your lodge for lunch. Freshen up, have dinner and overnight at the nearest lodge which could be Nyungwe forest lodge.

Day 3 of 9: Chimp trekking.
After a cup of tea with a snack or food, embark on chimpanze trekking  in Nyungwe forest. The takes around 4-6 hours while still in nthe dense jungle. Trekking chimps in the jungle is marvelous at the same time hiking up and down the steep slopes. The park rager guides you throught the tour and helps to identify these endangered species in it’s habitant. While on your trip you be able to identify them feed on fruits, swing on weak tree branches, jump and chance each other, this makes it an incredible tour in Rwanda.

Day 4 of 9: Tour Volcanoes National Park. 
Proceed to Kinigi headquaters after breakfast and takes about 5-6 hours via Gisenyi and Ruhengeri. Through Gisenyi from Kibuye it has beautiful senic views of different parts of Rwanda. This includes views of the endless tea plantations on different landscapes of Gisovu and Kayove. Have brief stopovers for video shooting, photography, and refreshment. It takes over 4 hours to drive to Gisenyi for lunch and a brief city tour. Then have a 1.5-2 hour drive to to Ruhengeri and finally Kinigi headquaters whivh well known as the base of gorilla tracking. In evening have refreshments and finally, dinner and overnight in a lodge or hotel.

Day 5 of 9: Rwanda Gorillas in the Mist
In a cool morning breeze, have breakfast then drive to Kinigi station(park headquarters) for group and guide allocation. Briefing also includes the highlights on the Dos’ and Don’ts while tracking mountain Gorillas in the jungle for security purposes.We start on hiking and trekking to the bamboo zone. Hiking up and down for gorillas takes few hours unless the travelers pace is very low to be completed in about 2-5 hours. Later in the afternoon, return to your lodge for lunch. From the delicious meal hace a tour to the magical the twin volcanic lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or any lodge of your choice.

Day 6 of 9: Day of hiking Mountain Bisoke
Majority of the tours are done in the morning after breakfast, therefore start hiking Mt Bisoke to have a view of the top crater lake. As you hike up the mountain, the cooler it becomes. Along the way, you come across the diffrernt vegetation types including the flowers and alpine. It’s advisable to hire porters while still at the headquarters for carrying the backpack that becomes heavier while hiking up and to help push or pull you while on the slopes in some sections. The day 6 tour involves trekking gorillas in the Mist with Dian Fossey. The total number of hours to reach at the top of Mt. Bisoke is about 5.

For easy maneuvering while hiking and safety, put on long sleveed clothes to protect you against hooks and strong rubbers shoes due to the soft brown soils on the slopes. For first time hikers, have some physical exercises becausing hiking requires reasonably fit individuals. Back to lodge as you review the day memorable experiences. Take dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 7 of 9: Akagera National Park and  Boat cruising.
This is the day of returning back to Kigali however you some stopover for a tour in Akagera National Park. Firstly, have breakfast then seat comfortably and enjoy the drive as you glance at the rolling hills of Rwanda. Along the way,  passby the beautiful undulating plains, composed of dense, broad-leafed woodland, lighter acacia woodland, rolling grassland and in some places are the tea plantations. Also with an extensive series of springs, lakes linked by papyrus swamps forming a sprawling wetland which highly attracts the colored different bird species.

You may decide to have a taste of Rwanda cuisine or any other type of food. Later proceed for a boat trip on Lake Ihema, you will have a closer look at water mammals, and water birds. Among the mammals may include Hippos, and crocodiles(reptile). The birds include Shoe billed stocks and papyrus gonolek. Endemics include the jacanas, ibis, sand pipers and herons. Return at lodge in the evening.

Day 8 of 9: Game driving
On this second last day, start your day with a ranger in an open vehicle to view the wild animals in Akagera National Park. You will be able to view the various animals such as elephants, buffalos, lions, Maasai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Butchel’s zebra, topi, bush baby, leopard and bushbuck to mention but a few. Chose a resturant or a hotel to have lunch as you reward yourself to have been able to view Rwanda in diffrernt aspects as you prepare to leave the Lant of a thousand hills.

Day 9 of 9: Final day on the Land of a thousand hills.
This is the final day to say farewell to your drive and fellow travelers you met on this tour, you may decide to leave a souvenir for them bought from one of the craft shop in Kigali city. To travel and reach the city is ideal because you have enough time to shop and take something form Rwanda for your beloved ones. Towards the time for your flight, head to the airport for a flight to take you back home.
