This 5 Days Rwanda Bird Watching Safari takes you to Akagera National Park, Nyabarongo & Bugesera and is one of the best birding safaris in Rwanda. Rwanda’s location in the Albertine Rift and its dense forests and mountains create a unique and remarkable environment for the Eco tourists to enjoy a bird watching Safari in Rwanda. Though small (about 250km east-west by 150km north-south) it has a bird list of over 700 species and supports the second highest number of Albertine Rift endemics than any other country.

Day 1: Arrival, Kigali Airport

On arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, you will be received by one of our tour guides who will transfer you to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you will do a city tour for being introduced about the history and culture of this country of thousand hills and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. Day 2: Bird watching at Nyabarongo and Nyarutarama

We get up early for birds watching in the Nyabarongo after have a city tour before having another bird watching activity in the afternoon at Nyarutarama artificial lake.

Day 3: Game Drive in Akagera

After breakfast, travel to Eastern part of Rwanda to visit the Akagera National Park. Arriving you will drive through the mixture of acacia and papyrus and have a chance to spot birds including Red-faced Barbet, Bennetts Woodpecker, Papyrus Gonolek, White-headed, Black and familiar Chats, Carruther’s and Tabora Cisticolas, White-winged and Broad-tailed Warblers and Miombo Wren-Warblers,.. . Overnight in the Ruzizi tented lodge (High end facility) and Akagera Game Lodge (Midrange facility) Meal Plan (FB)

Day 4: Game Drive in Akagera and Back to Kigali

The morning after breakfast leave Akagera Game Lodge to visit the Akagera National Park you will make a tour in a landscape of Savannah where you will see various wild animals (leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffe) and other animals such as zebras and various types of antelope, you will visit the park up to the park exit to the north. Day 5: Busegera and Departure

After breakfast, we head to Bugesera valley for bird watching after visit the genocide memorial site of Ntarama and Nyamata and in the afternoon we will return to Kigali. Basing on the time of your flight, we enjoy a city tour prior to your departure flight. Meal Plan B & L.

Note: this bird watching tour can also be extended to Nyungwe National Park another birding haven with 310 species if the client can stay for more days in Rwanda.

Best Time to Visit Rwanda

Planning to visit Rwanda for an safari holiday or trip? The best time to visit Rwanda varies according to the seasosn of the year; i.e. between June to Mid-September is the long dry season; October to November is a shorter rainy season and it’s followed by a short dry season from December to February. During both of Rwanda’s dry seasons, there is often light cloud cover. Therefore, one can choose Rwanda at any time of the year depending on the safari expectations and interests.
