Itinerary Summary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, The Capital of Rwanda
On your arrival at the airport, you will be met by safari guide/driver from Africa Safari Journeys to start your 5 Days Rwanda Cultural tour with a briefing and thereafter be transferred to the hotel for a rest from the long hours’ journey trip.

Day 2: Kigali City tour and Visit to Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center
After enjoying an early morning chilly breakfast, you will be picked to start off your day with a guided tour at the Gisozi (Kigali) Genocide Memorial site as you learn more about the real experience of the 1994 genocide from the storytellers. The Gisozi genocide memorial site is the final resting place where more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide were buried in Rwanda. Later on, you will take on a City tour in Kigali, visiting the old town of Nyamirambo, the new handicraft village, the Batwa pottery and dance center, and the Kimironko fruits. And then later you will be transferred to the hotel.

Day 3: Transfer from Kigali to Musanze (Ruhengeri) – Cultural Visits en-route
On this day in the morning, take your sumptuous breakfast, and start off your 3rd day of the cultural tour with a memorial visit to Ntarama Church, where thousands of Rwandan people were killed during the 1994 genocide. On this visit to the Ntarama church, learn more about the notable recovery from the genocide and the efforts undertaken by the local people and international human rights agencies to reunite the ethnic groups of Rwanda.
Later, we continue our cultural tour with a trip to Nyamata Church, where more 2,500 people were as well murdered still during the genocide. The church is also closely associated with the barbaric treatment of women during the genocide, and you’ll learn more about the incidences of mass rape, brutalization, and even the horrific use of HIV as a weapon of genocide.
Our driver/guide will further lead you to the village of Mayange, where you will be taken on a guided tour of the Reconciliation Village, learning about how the healing process between victims and perpetrators is taking place to recover from the 1994 Genocide memories and trauma.
In the afternoon, we believe you will be hungry now, well we will have lunch with the locals before continuing with our tour of the Reconciliation Village with visits to facilities such as the school and health centres, the local plantations, and an art gallery. after which will now head on with the journey to Musanze (Ruhengeri) for overnight stay.

Day 4: A Trip in Musanze, Later Transfer to Lake Kivu
Wake up to a chilly amazing breakfast prepared by the locals, as you prepare to visit the world’s famous Imbabazi Orphanage where Rosamond Halsey Carr and her staff cared for more than 400 Rwandan orphanages. While the orphanage was closed down by the Rwandan government, you can still visit the homestead and roam its grounds as you learn more about the author of ‘Land of a Thousand Hills: My Life in Rwanda’. You’ll have lunch at the Serena Lake Kivu, and in the afternoon you can pay a visit to a local fishing village as well as the hot springs.
Dinner and overnight will be in Gisenyi, Rwanda’s largest port city which sits on the shores of Lake Kivu giving you the opportunity to both explore the quaint colonial town and (if time allows) even go for swimming in the fresh waters of the Lake Kivu
Day 5: Cultural Visit to the Nyanza Palace (King’s Palace) & Transfer Back to Kigali
On an early morning, wake up to the cool breeze of the waters and take breakfast, prepare afterwards and get transferred to Nyanza, the historical seat of the ancient Rwandan kings and visit the Palace, then drive to Butare, Rwanda cultural center and visit the National Museum. Later in the day, set off for a scenic drive back to Kigali reaching early enough to do a final tour the city as you visit the local markets of Nyamirambo, Kimironko, and craftsmen, then arrange your flight plans.
